I've spent 20 years building and scaling digital businesses in markets where the infrastructure, consumer behaviour and the playbook are still being defined — from Pricecheck to iflix to Flood.
Emerging markets don't reward imported playbooks. The infrastructure is incomplete, consumer behaviour is still forming, and the winners are the ones who build for the market in front of them — not the one in the case study.
I built Pricecheck into the biggest price-comparison marketplace on the continent and exited it in 2015. I then took iflix, a streaming service born in Asia, across Africa — part of an expansion into 28 countries in 14 months that raised $280 million along the way.
Today, as Founder of Flood, I help legacy retailers compete digitally — and I work with boards, founders and leadership teams as an advisor and public speaker on digital growth, marketplaces, super apps and expansion into markets others find too hard.
